Hermes to showcase UP handicraft to the world
TOILUCKNOW: In a major boost to the state’s handicraft, Hermes, one of the world’s top lifestyle and fashion brand, is all set to open a Centre of Excellence in the city. To be set up in collaboration with the state government, the Centre Hermes’ first in India would be inaugurated by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday. Aimed at providing an hermes belt 42mm replica
international platform to UP’s handicraft, the centre will also train and groom local artisans to compete with their counterparts at world level. “Ten years ago, there were 1.60 lakh weavers in and around Varanasi and today their number has come down to just 15,000. So, in the next few years, those who have been weaving saris and other silk fabric will be wiped out. Here, we think they need Hermes’ support and intervention,” Max Hermes, the managing director of the global brand told TOI. The Hermes’ Centre of Excellence would absorb products like chikan and zardozi from Lucknow, stone carving from Agra and brassware from Moradabad.
