We demonstrate how the planar limit of global solitons coincides generically with the zero temperature limit of black branes with charged scalar hair. We exhibit these features in both phenomenological models and consistent truncations of eleven dimensional supergravity. We then discover new branches of hairy black brane in SO(6) gauged supergravity. Despite the imbalance provided by three chemical potentials conjugate to the three R charges, there is always at least one branch with charged scalar hair, emerging at a temperature where the normal phase is locally thermodynamically stable.
